Big Airdrop Causes Controversy: Users Required to Pay for Tokens
A new altcoin release has sparked backlash as developers impose a unique condition for airdrop participants to claim tokens.
LayerZero (ZRO) has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to support the Ethereum developer community through a novel claim mechanism called Proof of Donation. This approach is set to result in a donation of approximately $18.5 million to the Protocol Guild, a crowdfunding platform for Ethereum developers.
The growth of LayerZero has been largely driven by the Protocol Guild and Ethereum’s core developers, who have played a key role in advancing the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), Layer 2-centric roadmap, and the broader crypto landscape.
The Proof of Donation process enables users to obtain ZRO, LayerZero’s native token, by making a donation. To acquire ZRO, users are required to donate $0.10 per ZRO in USDC, USDT, or local ETH.
To demonstrate its support, the LayerZero Foundation has committed to matching all donations up to $10 million.
ZRO tokens have begun trading on spot markets, with Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, also listing the altcoin in futures trading. At the time of writing, ZRO is trading at $3.60.
