OKX Denies Hacking Claims and Confirms Compensation for Affected Users
Leading cryptocurrency exchange OKX has issued a statement addressing claims of a recent hacking incident involving some customer accounts. According to OKX, the attack was limited in scope, with accounts accessed using fraudulent documents. The exchange has since compensated those affected by the breach, denying any security breach allegations and continuing their investigation into the matter.
The incident came to light on social media when two OKX users reported compromised and emptied accounts. Dilation Effect, a Web3 security firm, suggested that attackers exploited a vulnerability within OKX. However, the exchange refuted these claims, stating that the incident was unrelated to Google Authenticator or SMS verification methods.
In a recent update, OKX confirmed that compensation has been paid to affected users, with ongoing efforts to support those impacted. Chinese cryptocurrency journalist Wu Blockchain also reported that the exchange compensated two users whose accounts were compromised. Please note that this is not investment advice.
