Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on his official social media account that an operation is underway to combat cryptocurrency fraud on social media. The operation has resulted in the seizure of cryptocurrency wallets worth 30 billion lira from individuals involved in a pyramid scheme and defrauding citizens.
According to Yerlikaya, a total of 21 individuals were apprehended in the operation named “SİBERAĞ-15”. Out of the 21, 18 have been arrested while the remaining 3 have been released under judicial supervision.
Additionally, it has been reported that 752 bank and cryptocurrency accounts have been confiscated as a result of the operation. These accounts were found to have been involved in transactions totaling 30 billion 478 million 473 thousand Turkish Lira through the pyramid scheme between 2017 and 2024.
Yerlikaya stated, “Our prosecutors’ offices have initiated an investigation against these individuals for broadcasting advertisements on social media platforms that promise high earnings and defraud numerous citizens through the pyramid scheme, allowing them to make unjust profits.”
The Interior Minister’s post included a tweet with the following information: “21 suspects, with transaction volumes amounting to 30 billion 478 million 473 thousand TL in their accounts, were apprehended, and 752 bank and cryptocurrency accounts were seized.” The tweet also mentioned that the operation was conducted by the Gendarmerie across nine provinces to combat the crimes of Aggravated Fraud and Laundering of Assets Originating from Crime.
