Metaplanet, a publicly listed Japanese investment advisory firm, has confirmed its purchase of 20.2 Bitcoins (BTC) to strengthen its BTC holdings.
Metaplanet Invests an Additional $1.2 Million in Bitcoin as Part of Its Investment Strategy Progression
In a press release on its official platform, the Tokyo-headquartered company revealed that it has invested 200 million yen ($1.2 million) in Bitcoin, consequently elevating its total assets to 161.3 BTC.
Following the closure of trading activities on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the company promptly shared the news of the acquisition on its social media account on X platform.

Just a week ago, the firm had outlined its intentions to further strengthen its Bitcoin portfolio by acquiring an additional $6 million worth of BTC. According to the Metaplanet website, this strategic shift towards Bitcoin was prompted by the altering investment landscape brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The methodology of accumulating Bitcoins echoes the approach adopted by MicroStrategy, a software development company based in Tysons Corner, Virginia, which has been steadily purchasing BTC for nearly four years and currently holds more than 226 BTC, constituting over 1% of the total Bitcoins in circulation.
Metaplanet witnessed a 1% surge in its shares following this announcement.
