Executives of China’s Largest Security Company Arrested for Stealing This Altcoin
China’s largest security company, 360, has made headlines as some of its executives have been found guilty of stealing a significant amount of Dash (DASH) altcoin from a victim. The perpetrators were sentenced to three years in prison and their probation periods were extended.
The scheme, which took place between February 9-20, 2023, involved exploiting the Yapi remote code execution vulnerability to gain unauthorized access to a cryptocurrency website. The criminals, identified as Hongmou, Yangmou, and Zhangmou, managed to infiltrate the target website and take control of intranet servers through horizontal infiltration and Trojan planting. They then obtained the victim’s cryptocurrency wallet address and private key by downloading and analyzing the server’s source code.
Using this information, the perpetrators created a fake instruction to transfer the cryptocurrencies from the victim’s wallet. The stolen Dash coins were subsequently exchanged for other cryptocurrencies and sold, resulting in over 2.5 million yuan of illegal income.
At the time of writing, DASH is trading around $23, indicating that the total value of the stolen DASH tokens is approximately 70 thousand.
